THE WIZARD IN THE WOOD - 1st draft

The nice thing about print on demand services is that you can publish a handsome book just for yourself. When I complete a first draft of a work in progress I treat myself by designing a cover for it and printing a couple of copies for myself. This is useful, for the morale, for getting feedback from friends and colleagues and also as hardcopy backup of valuable material. This cover uses an image I don't hold the copyright for, so it will never be available to buy. But the printed copy is very nice. Something I also find pleasing is the elegance of having the back cover free from blurb, bar code, etc.
THE MASTER CHANGES - 1st draft

The source image for this cover was a very low resolution photograph. By increasing the size of the image and then playing about with various filters and layer mixes I managed to get around the problem of pixilation and got a "digital painting" effect that has a dreamy quality, which fits well with the fantasy theme of the book.
MARY HAD STRETCHMARKS

A preliminary tryout for a friend's book. We haven't reached a final design yet.

This is a variation on the cover for my completed, currently self-published novel. You can see more information on it HERE.
